Project #9 is a medium level crafting project.
We really had fun making this beautiful little Santa Bag project in a hotel room. It was my team project when we went to the Stampin’ Up! 30th Anniversary event called OnStage recently in Orlando. You really can craft just about anywhere with a little planning. I think it turned out great! I hope you like it, too.
This little Santa Bag is just right for a lovely little something for someone special in your life. These little bags are so versatile and can even be directly stamped upon with Stazon ink pad or other types of fabric ink. We had some fun using a very different technique. We began by stamping this beautiful holiday ornament image from the Beautiful Baubles stamp set with Memento stamp pad onto white tissue paper, the kind used in gift wrapping that we all have around this time of year. I didn’t realize I didn’t take a picture of that step. We then cut out the image.
By painting some matte ModPodge directly onto the bag where we planned to place the image, it created a sticky surface. A couple of tips: if you paint larger than the surface you plan to cover, it will make your canvas bag stiff. And, be sure to place some cardboard into the bag to create a hard surface and not to have the ModPodge seep through the bag onto the back portion. Don’t ask how I know these things. 😉
We then placed the tissue on the wet ModPodge and painted more over the entire image to adhere it like glue to the canvas bag. You can either let it dry or use a heat tool, careful not to get too close or too hot and burn it. I know, this shows a blowdryer…I would not recommend, we used a low setting very carefully.
Then we used the Stampin’ Blends in a variety of colors to fill in with color where we wanted on our ornament image.
A touch of a couple of extras like Basic Rhinestone Gems and a bit of ribbon and you have an adorable gift bag!
